Internship Hacks for students: Personal opinion

Internship is an important phase for students which is also considered the first step towards career building. However, if you are an undergraduate student or have completed any professional education it’s a mandatory thing to execute.

As a textile undergraduate student; I also completed my internship at Knit Concern Ltd. It was an amazing experience and I’ll guide you on how I applied tips & tricks to get a better understanding of the factory environment. Before getting started please note that all of the things I’m writing are personal opinion to make the best use of your non-paid internship opportunity. So. Please pardon me if any of them don’t match your opinion.

“INTERNSHIP” is just a simple word but there is an ocean hiding behind that. I firmly believe some key factors make it worthwhile. Because, It’s the only phase or time frame where you will get to know more about your future workplace environment, policies & overall activity.

The things you need to keep in mind during all these days are:

·????????Punctuality

·????????Behavior

·????????Body Language

·????????Work according to factory instructor

·????????Taking notes

·????????Keeping an eye over your health.

Now let’s talk about them briefly.

Punctuality:

It’s an important factor to highlight your presence in the factory. You are joining a factory because you want to learn something from them. So, be on time and present there before your reporting time. It has two benefits.

1. It’ll borrow you extra time to overserve the factory more.

2. It’ll promote positivity about you.

By getting more information about factory simply you’ll get a better understanding of its environment. Apart from that, you are also having a positive impression on your bosses/officers. It may impress them enough to share more details about production floors especially flaws & obstacles they face while working. They’ll definitely feel your curiosity & will be more motivated as they have noticed punctuality in you.

If, I say more about my personal experiences, I saw it very helpful even it motivated normal labors to make communications with you. Believe me an operator can share a vast amount of knowledge about specific machines you never knew before.

Behavior: ?

Our behavior defines our character. Wherever we are going please make yourself a Well – behaved person. If you are behaving badly, showing ego, shouting with your friends, behaving roughly with laborers, using abusive words etc. will make a negative impact on you. Because every company looks for a person who is

·????????Technically sound

·????????Well mannered

·????????Good Communication skills

·????????Flexible

But if you are doing all of the mentioned negative things then it’s better to change yourself for a better future or career path. It’ll suffer you in the long run.

Try to Cooperate with operators with a smile on your face. You can have some candy in your pocket. I think there is psychological things you can apply here which will give you extra benefit at the end of the day. For me, I used to put a smiley face on me while talking to them. If I saw them busy in working, I used to give them time & come back, later on, to learn from them. Most of the time, I offered them sweet candies which makes them feel important. Besides these, Candies contain sugar which brings peace of mind immediately. Once they are ready to cooperate you are all set to dive into the deep sea of practical knowledge. I personally learned a lot of things and real-time problems from them. Because most of the time your reporting officer will be busy as they have a lot more to do. So, hardly they can have extra time for you to give a brief over respective machines. So. For me, it’s the easiest way to get access to what you were looking for.

So, Be gentle, humble & kind.

Body Language

Your body language is also an important factor in – terms of expressing your personality. If we express our tiredness through body language is one of the worst things we are showing up. On the other hand, industries are always in the need of active peoples.

I’ve seen many interns in my internship period who stays all the time in the canteen and scrolling on social media platforms. Usually gets a nap there & noticed by high authority. Most of them are unaware of professional body language and lose floor to express their pro-activeness.

So, I would definitely recommend you guys to maintain a proper active body language in your internship place. Cause you’ll never know from where the opportunity coming from.

Work according to the factory instructor: ?

Most of us gets in trouble as we do not work the way our factory instructor commanded us. Always keep in mind that you are in a well-organized organization where every second is valuable. There is hardly any backup for mistakes & no one expects violation from you.

So, Work the way they wanted you to do. Specially on production floor

·????????Keep your eyes on the precaution list & make yourself aware of it.

·????????Maintain proper distance from machines.

·????????Avoid taking unnecessary pictures.

·????????Avoid taking pictures of sensitive documents.

·????????Avoid taking pictures of their running production items.

Taking notes:

Always keep a diary to maintain proper notes. It’s an important task to execute as an intern. You can note down everything you feel is important as there is no limit in this case. But my personal opinion is to take down notes as much as you can. Because it’ll help you to get a better understanding of what you are looking for.

You can have them stored in your bag and can access them whenever you want. The book of practical knowledge is open to you. ?On average you can collect details of many things. Some basic things are:

·????????Taking notes of process or method study.

·????????Taking notes about machines & their specifications.

·????????Taking notes about machines faults & solutions.

·????????Taking notes of process faults & solutions.

·????????Taking notes about chemicals & basic recipes.

·????????Taking notes about different & rare methods of any production system or product.

There are many more things you can go for; So, explore yourself.

Keeping an eye over your health:

Our health is one of the most valuable asset we can have. It’s mandatory to keep an eye over your health. A lot student goes through unhygienic diet which may lead them towards illness.

Let me tell you a story of my friend. We were a group of three students and one of my friend used to eat “Street Foods” during lunch hour. Guess what? He got seriously ill and detached for seven days of internship. Missing internship days means missing chances to get more knowledge of your future workplaces. I personally used to consume a lot of beverages like Fanta, Sprite, and Pepsi which caused me severe illness. So, For me, it’s important to maintain your health during those days, and please stay hydrated. It’ll increase your focus, productivity & efficiency. The good thing about it is that you won’t get tired easily.

I hope these will help you in terms of enhancing your productivity; at least you can get a minimum kick of productivity following these hacks.
