Internship - The First Fly
I remember those days when me and couple of my friends came to Bengaluru in search of internship opportunity. Coming from a background which had no reference, connects or ideas on internship , we decided to print our resumes and go door-to-door, it took almost a week for us to cover most of the offices around M.G road! – those were no google days and we had no clue of what those companies were doing but our intention was to get internship in some company, not necessary that it has to be big or small or from particular industry. Ten days passed but we had no luck. In many companies we were denied entry and in some we were sent away with some phone numbers and some companies were considerate for receiving our resumes and yet again there was no response . Now, left with no money even to print resumes I had to think of some frugal way of approaching companies and relevant people, so I picked up a telephone directory and started searching for pharma companies around Bangalore and collected many companies board numbers.
?Next day, ?I went to a nearby telephone booth and started calling each company and asking for Internship chances without knowing who is on the other side!?But again, after few calls I figured out that I should be asking the HR and put my message differently. Now, few calls later I started telling that I was calling from XXXX university’s placement office and would like to contact the HR and somehow this started working , they started transferring the calls and I told the HR person that one of the student from the university would be visiting them seeking for internship and requested for an appointment for the student (me) to visit. I was able to secure some appointments. I had to answer another big question- How am I going to travel to places without any money? It took almost two days to borrow some money and to start visiting these offices. Every visit started teaching me something new and I started refining my approach.
?Finally, there was one great company- @CIPLA which agreed to give me an opportunity to do internship in their manufacturing plant. Apparently, they had a very structured approach to help interns and gave me an opportunity to understand many aspects of their operation and processes – till today, I’m grateful to @CIPLA for giving me the first exposure to corporate life.
I don’t think I have forgotten anything that I learnt during that period.
With my own experience I always believed that internship and corporate exposures are very important before one starts their career . It can actually give a good preview and set the tone for their future career. It is responsibility of universities and corporates to strengthen this.

At Agamin, from the time we started as a tiny team we encouraged and supported multiple students to pursue their internship with us and now our team has taken this to next level and called it ‘Techsposure’ - a structured way of helping students to learn from what we have learnt. We had a batch of students visiting us on an industrial visit last week and I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm shown by our team as well as the students. We consider this as our small gesture of given back to society and I hope it helps few folks who are aspiring to build their career in Tech Domain.

2 å¹´A great example of the 'way of the entrepreneur', you try something, you hit a barrier, you refine your approach, you hit another barrier and you refine your approach again and you continue to refine and improve your 'product', until you get to where you want to be... (can't endorse the idea of calling and pretending you were the University - but sometimes that's how breakthroughs happen!). ??
