Internship Experience at TLT- Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Over the past three months, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work as a Cyber Security Intern at TLT - Tomorrow's Leaders Today, Inc . TLT is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young individuals by fostering collaboration and mentorship to nurture their potential as future leaders. The organization's educational initiative not only offered me hands-on experience but also imparted invaluable skills.

In September 2023, I was delighted to participate in the fall remote internship, collaborating with a diverse group of interns across Texas committed to fortifying the virtual landscape. Engaging in a cyber security internship proved to be a dynamic exploration into the heart of digital security. Throughout the internship, I found myself immersed in a world where new challenges and opportunities for growth occur every week.

Every week, we participated in online meetings, collaborative reflection sessions, and exchanging insights and ideas. Within this vibrant atmosphere, a culture of learning and innovation thrived, allowing me to delve into the latest cybersecurity technologies and practices. As a cyber security intern, my weekly assignments comprised diverse projects. I was responsible for evaluating the cybersecurity stance of TLT's digital infrastructure and formulating strategies to strengthen its security measures. Additionally, I produced a range of reports, including business continuity plans, risk assessments, threat management controls, and a retention policy for TLT - Tomorrow's Leaders Today.

Furthermore, I was fortunate to collaborate with fellow cybersecurity interns on crafting a 20-minute presentation underscoring the significance of safety in the realm of cybersecurity. This presentation would be a valuable resource for future interns, offering guidance and insights on cybersecurity. The collaborative aspect of working with other interns was a standout feature of the internship experience. I discovered that precise and impactful communication is vital for enhancing efficiency and accomplishing tasks within a project. Efficient teamwork serves to streamline each project, elevating the overall project quality.

Initially, these projects appeared challenging due to their intricate nature, encompassing various components and systems. Nevertheless, the guidance from Elaine and my fellow interns played a crucial role in helping me navigate the complexities confidently and efficiently.

Concluding my internship at TLT, a feeling of achievement and appreciation washed over me. I extend my gratitude to Elaine Smith-Poyourow, MAM, NPM , for mentoring and guiding me throughout this experience. The journey enriched my technical understanding of cybersecurity and refined my teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Departing from the internship, I was deeply grateful for TLT's dedication to fostering the development of future cybersecurity leaders and several others.
