An Intern's Story
Wharton Business Consulting
Maximising your potential through your people
Discover what it's like to be a part of our team as we speak to talented intern Pedro Ferrandez Anton who reflects on his time at Wharton Business Consulting .
Why did you choose Wharton Business Consulting?
While searching for internships on LinkedIn to broaden my experience in industries of interest, I discovered Wharton Business Consulting. Their allure was not just their reputability, but the people who shape the firm – a team composed of individuals with remarkable backgrounds. I was drawn to the wealth of knowledge and experience they possess, believing in the immense learning opportunity their mentorship could offer. Furthermore, my classmates' growing inclination towards the consulting industry piqued my curiosity. This internship was my first step into the world of consulting, inspired by the motivation of my peers and the allure of a challenging and rewarding industry. Joining Wharton Business Consulting was my choice to learn from the best while paving my own path in this highly coveted field.
What has been your favourite part of your job? What’s been challenging?
The most gratifying aspect of my internship at Wharton Business Consulting was the trust vested in me. The opportunity to truly own my work was both liberating and instrumental in fostering a profound sense of ownership, a rare find in my professional journey so far. I also cherished the commitment of the team towards my personal development. Their willingness to go the extra mile in ensuring my growth was both motivating and endearing.
However, the journey was not without its challenges. Familiarising myself with the company's offerings and adapting to the team dynamics, particularly given their rich experience, was demanding. It required me to be proactive, constantly staying on my toes to keep pace. Yet, it was through these challenges that I developed resilience and a better understanding of the consulting world. The combination of trust, mentorship, and exposure to a dynamic environment made my experience at Wharton truly enriching.

Tell us about WBC’s flexible working.
One of the standout features of Wharton Business Consulting is its embrace of flexible working arrangements. Not only did this enable me to undertake the internship remotely from Bristol, but it also facilitated the last month of my placement in Spain, allowing me to spend invaluable time with family. Wharton serves as a testament to an organisation's ability to excel in a fiercely competitive industry, while concurrently providing its employees with a high degree of flexibility.
Ahead of its time, Wharton foretells a future where more companies will undoubtedly adopt a similar approach. As a person with a strong family orientation, this aspect of Wharton's ethos is particularly meaningful to me. This progressive culture enabled a healthy work-life balance without compromising my professional growth, proving that flexibility in the workplace is not just a benefit, but an integral part of a successful organisation.
What are your plans for the future?
Empowered by my invaluable experience at Wharton Business Consulting, I am set to confidently stride into the future. This summer, I will dive into a new challenge - an internship at an organisation in the financial industry. I intend to apply the rich insights and skills I have garnered at Wharton in this new role. Once summer concludes, I will return to the University of Bristol to complete my final academic year.
One of the most invaluable aspects of my experience at Wharton is the relationships I've formed with an extraordinarily brilliant team. I am confident that these relationships will not only endure but continue to contribute significantly to both my personal and professional development. I leave Wharton feeling grateful for these connections, the opportunities to learn, and the trust invested in me. As I venture forward, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships made, and an enduring connection to Wharton, an institution that has had a profound influence on my career trajectory.
