Interning at SERC
30 years. Yes, its been 3 decades since I joined the SERC at the famous Indian Institute of Science. An opportunity that hundreds dream about. An interview with the legendary V. Rajaraman and then getting our appointment letters!
7 of us were lucky enough to be selected to do an internship at this elite place. We were collectively called "sectra". Here, I was very fortunate to be mentored by the "league of the extraordinary gentlemen". Professors who were institutes of their own. Each had their own contribution in moulding our careers. I chose the exciting field of Computer Graphics and thus I worked closely with Edmond Prakash . Right from Day 1 of our interaction was very memorable. Dr. Prakash would mentor me in the best way possible - He would always give me the initial thoughts and ask me to come up additional information & my analysis. This helped me gain better understanding of the topic and the right attitude to explore newer areas. Those days in SERC helped me get into Academics, even though in a limited manner. I was introduced to #virtualreality then. An area that I would revisit in 2020 when I wrote two articles for Encyclopedia of Computer Graphics & Games.
This article is my way of acknowledging the contribution of Dr. Prakash in my career. #ThursdayThanks #gratitude

1 年Thankyou Madhusudan Rao for rekindling nostalgic memories of SERC@IISc. It was indeed a brilliant era working alongside the passionate IISc SERC sectra cohort: Madhusudan, Aaj, Venugopal, Kannan, Kodai, Muthukumar and Gnana. Your contributions as a team to SERC with full of energy, was excellent and way beyond anything expected from Interns. Also very pleased to see the sectra cohort emerge as Leaders and Architects of world-class solutions. Wishing the sectra team the Very Best to achieve Greater Success in the future!
