In the age of Digital Transformation, we often talk about data and its importance. However, processing raw data and analyzing it requires time, expertise, and the use of supporting software and technologies.?
This is especially important considering the increasing number of networked objects that need to be processed to create value for the company. The Internet of Things describes this world of connected objects that communicate with each other and send data to databases in the cloud or on-premise.
IoT technologies offer the possibility to connect any machine to the sensors embedded in the devices, enabling automatic and remotely manageable data collection.?
In a data processing cycle, the various stages are as follows:
- Data collection: data is collected from the source via the IoT devices' sensors, which can detect information such as temperatures and static or moving images.
- Data transmission: data is sent to the cloud or an on-premise database through gateways and IP protocols chosen according to the architecture of the reference system.
- Data processing: once in the storage databases, the data is transformed into useful information for the intended purpose through the use of chosen and programmed software. For example, if the IoT device needs to count the number of entrances to a shop, during processing, that data is compared with the average number of entrances per day.
- Data visualization and analysis: departmental experts do the data analysis and define future strategies and actions based on the information processed by the software.?
