Internet of Things 7 Layers

Internet of Things 7 Layers

The Internet of Things, IoT, is getting a lot of press these days. Dense Networks focuses on trying to bring clarity to this developing ecosystem and came across this excellent model published by Forbes Magazine in an article written by Mike Kavis. Unlike the OSI model, this model acknowledges the elephant in the room with technology. What is the Business Value?

We think this model should help technologists and business leaders begin to comprehend the possibilities when applying these solutions. The IoT system will utilize all 4 levels of the Dense Networks model: Networks, Infrastructure, DATA Management, Things/Devices. The technology by itself provides some benefits but when the Data is properly processed it can automate decision making and disintermediate layers of the supply chain.

The hype surrounding Internet of Things can be confusing. The reality is that the Internet of Things is very different by industry and by application. Network technologies like: Bluetooth, RFID, WI FI, LTE, Zigbee are a few of the methods are being used. The decision on which type of network to use is situational and may require multiple network technologies. Dense Networks is hosting a conference which will address the Internet of Things in the Connected City on April 19 and 20 in Orlando, Florida. Join us. More details at www.densenetworks.com
