The Internet of Revenue Generating Things - #IRevGeT

Yesterday we had a very productive meeting in the Canonical offices with a partner, Creditcall. Out of a brainstorming session we distilled the concept of "The Internet of Revenue Generating Things". The #IRevGeT idea is to create an open source IoT platform with open source and commercial apps on top that when deployed on a microserver that gets included into a connected device, is able to generate extra revenue for whoever is the device manufacturer or the one servicing the device. Concrete examples of IRevGeT use cases are vending machines that get NFC enabled and all of a sudden can be used for many other purposes, e.g. recharge an Oyster card, top-up a prepaid mobile, get a micro-loan, etc. Other examples could be adding digital signage and custom advertisement to lots of home appliances, adding automatic replenishment services for food/drinks or other consumable products like ink, predictive maintenance and automatic servicing proposals, etc. In the spirit of Lean Startup Methodology, we want to throw the idea out in the open to understand if there is interest from device manufacturers, companies that service appliances, partners that have revenue generating building blocks, etc. to join us. If you like the idea, just like this post and forward it to others. If you want to participate, just connect via LinkedIn.
nice article Maarten
we are already strongly supporting this idea, IoT can easily provide an income, can be a solution for those looking for a new way of income, collaboration and open solutions is a promising future for IoT
