The internet responds to a potential TikTok ban.
Over the past 24 hours, my news feed on TikTok has gone from quirky voiceover videos, get ready with me's, and other light-hearted content to any and every creator addressing their concern with the congressional hearing that was held late afternoon yesterday." Ironically, most creators are choosing to stay "on brand", whether that be with the typical satirical videos, mocking politics and older generations who "misunderstand" the legitimacy of their platform. Other creators continue making conversation-evoking videos with their following, recording themselves as they walk down the street, eat lunch, or sit in their car.
TikTok users and the internet at large were quick to make fun of congress for their questions of TikTok CEO, Shouzi Chow, as well as some NSFW videos (watch at your own risk).
There is, of course, tons of speculation, which is also not unusual. Some people believe the issue is not a real concern, referencing back to previous times in recent years when a TikTok ban was threatened. The CEO of TikTok, Shouzi Chow, seems to be taking the case seriously enough to record a video addressing the topic personally. I have also noticed quite a few creators who are starting to prompt their followers and fans to "follow them on Instagram'' perhaps as a precaution to save their social media status quo.

For the most part, TikTok is completely seen as its own platform and doesn't integrate well with other platforms. For example, if a person creates a video on TikTok, the creator cannot share that video to other platforms without the TikTok watermark attached to the video. I am curious to know how other platforms are reacting to this paradigm shift in our world of social media, if at all. Do you find the ban legitimate? Would this potentially lead to further chaos and disruption on other platforms?
Would love to hear your thoughts!
