It might sound very basic, however, understanding the demographics and analyzing the usage of internet has proved to be fundamental to many business innovations , technological innovations, and scientific research .
To name a few, think of the growing online purchasing & trade markets , online education market, the online sales & marketing market ( the evolving inbound marketing platforms such as HubSpot , social selling using linkedin , ..etc).
The rising use of internet has also been employed as ingredient in innovating new business models . These new Business Models Innovations have disrupted many industries and markets , Uber and Airbnb are just examples among others. For example Airbnb , as company, has reached a market value greater than many long established hotel chains while it does not own any Hotel ! The new business model it has innovated and successfully implemented , would not been possible without utilizing the internet as market channel after understanding and well analyzing the demographics of its users, among others.
The rising research interest in concepts of the IoT is evident, among others. All these revolutionary research, growing online economy, business innovations and disruptions to well established industries / busienssess, technological innovations, would have not been evolving and growing in importance without the presence of the internet. These all are developing very rapidly indeed!
Thus , I suggest that keeping track of the very basics, that we might sometimes take for granted, such as the internet use and keep monitoring its trends, predicting its future, deeply analyzing its data will continue to be basic ingredient for building more business and technological innovations and growth.
