The heading must have intrigued you. A thought may have popped up ‘the world is yet to know about IoT (Internet of Things) in entirety, and now there’s something about behaviours too?’ Well… what is predictable about technology is, it keeps evolving at a fast pace!
Before delving into IoB, it is crucial to discuss IoT, as they have a cause-and-effect relationship. Internet of Things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes a system of inter-related devices that serve the purpose of connecting and transferring data to other devices and systems over the internet.
IoT is important because a device/an object that can digitally represent itself, becomes bigger than itself. The object relates to its user, connects with the surrounding objects and database data as well.
What is IoB?
Now, about the cause-and-effect relationship between the above-mentioned topics – IoB extends from IoT. The interconnection of devices, that are embedded with sensors and technologies, results in access to a vast variety of information. Since IoT is expanding and evolving, new ways of storing and understanding data are coming up.
These devices that are linked with the internet in our ‘smart-homes’, don’t just cater to our needs and deliver accordingly. They understand users’ requirements and demands and hence have access to a large amount of data, which is about the users. The information is derived from the behavioural aspects of a user, based on their choices of devices, search history etc.
(Thus) Internet of Behaviours refers to a concept that tries to understand the user’s behavioural psychology perspective, based on their online activity. It seeks to address how properly the data has been understood and how that understanding can be further used to expand the market or create new products.
Much ado around Internet of Behaviours
Data-mining is not new, it has been in practice for a while. Since the advent of internet, data has played a crucial role. It is used to understand the market, users’ demands, what sites they visit, and in turn earn profits for the ventures relying on to this ‘data’ - it’s called the new gold for a reason! More the information, better insights into how users behave.
Imagine having access to a dossier that can make you understand your target audience better and thoroughly. How beneficial would it be for a business, your business venture? You have the answer! So, be it IoT or IoB, the intent is:
- To increase user base, by understanding the USERS better
- To offer them better choices
- To get a hold of what is in vogue, what is being preferred
- To get insights into users’ behaviours, interests and preferences;
to expand, grow and earn higher profits. The era of emerging technology is pregnant with numerous possibilities in business, finance, employment etc.
Gartner, the renowned global research and advisory firm, has predicted that IOB will have more than 3 billion people under its influence by the year 2023.

3 年Great insight. It seems that social behaviors are what humans long for and IoB is one way of enriching that experience. One of many.
