The Internet Age

Another edition of the long-awaited SXSW is taking place, it’s a moment of exchanging ideas and opportunities to absorb innovative content in the area of Technology, as well as other sectors.

The Tech Trends Report has been updated and continues to bring powerful insights into the IT segment. Presented by Future Today Institute CEO Amy Webb , the report introduced the term “supercycle”.

“In economics, a ‘supercycle’ refers to a prolonged period of rising demand, driving up raw material prices to unprecedented levels. It extends over years, even decades, and is driven by substantial and sustained structural changes in the economy.”

According to Amy, we have entered a technological supercycle, a wave of innovation so powerful that it is changing our lives, in the context of social interactions, as well as in global politics.

This phenomenon is now being defined by several technologies: artificial intelligence, connected ecosystems and biotechnology. All of them promotes a new industrial revolution in our times.

Artificial Intelligence will change the way we work, and although there are fears of mass job elimination, experts emphasize that AI will bring more possibilities for new vacancies than a replacement of human functions.

Furthermore, according to the futurist, LLM (Large Language Models) will be quickly replaced by LAM (Large Action Models), rising an ecosystem of connected devices.

And, finally, the fusion of Technology with Biology will result in a series of great innovations, as we can already see today. These innovations, however, raise ethical concerns about privacy and will require full regulatory guidelines to be explored safely.

The interaction of these trends, presented by Amy, reveal major long-term changes. And that is why all organizations must be attentive in order to carry out strategic planning of their work, anticipating projects even before the demand begins, and being prepared for different scenarios.

You mentioned the concept of a technological supercycle, highlighting its profound impact on various aspects of our lives. This notion of transformative waves isn't new; throughout history, we've witnessed similar paradigm shifts, such as the Industrial Revolution and the Information Age. Just as those eras reshaped societies and economies, this current wave is fundamentally altering how we interact and govern. Considering this, how do you envision navigating the ethical and societal implications of such rapid technological advancement? Is there a particular historical precedent or analytical framework that informs your approach to understanding and addressing these complexities?
