What female or non-male artist have you enjoyed the most over the past year?

Honestly, there are so many to choose from! In 2023 I got into Holly Humberstone and boygenius in a big way, and there are also so many heavy bands with incredible women in the scene, like Make Them Suffer, Roman Candle and ANKOR.

Could you share with us a female or non-male individual in the industry who serves as a source of inspiration for you?

I’m very lucky to work with lots of amazing women every day, so shout out to all of them, but I can’t go without mentioning my boss Francesca Caldara. She runs our entire division and does it with the best energy and work ethic.

How do you feel the music industry has evolved in terms of inclusivity and representation of women, particularly in recent years?

Being able to have conversations and keep pushing forward feels really important. I think that there is still so much work to be done, but to know that it’s a priority across the industry is reassuring.

What message would you like to share with aspiring female artists and professionals in the music industry?

Find your tribe! It’s so important to have good friends and people who will help celebrate your wins and pick you up when you’re down, and that doesn’t always have to be other women.

What female or non-male artist have you enjoyed the most over the past year?

So many! Charlotte Sands, Poppy and Sofie Hawley-Weld from SofiTukker, Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox are some my favorite from this past year.?

Could you share with us a female or non-male individual in the industry who serves as a source of inspiration for you??

Honestly all the women on my team at UNIFIED Recorded Music are a big source of inspiration to me every day, I love that a big majority of my team are bad-ass females.?

How do you feel the music industry has evolved in terms of inclusivity and representation of women, particularly in recent years?

Steady improvement over the last few years, but there is always more room for woman at the top, in the limelight and in industry in general. It’s something that can always keep progressing. ?

What message would you like to share with aspiring female artists and professionals in the music industry?

Surround yourself with as many woman pursuing music as possible. I always found that help me feel empowered in my pursuit of the industry to where I am now. Don’t be afraid to reach out to women in the industry who have been at it for longer for support and advice and certainly be willing to help those who are where you once were when you find people reaching out to you.

What female or non-male artist have you enjoyed the most over the past year?

Kira Puru was one of the first artists I fell in love with when I moved in Melbourne, and not much has changed, she is a constant inspiration, and her tracks stay on repeat. Also enjoying a little throwback and really getting into Amy Winehouse, I feel like I’ve never appreciated her enough in the past!

Could you share with us a female or non-male individual in the industry who serves as a source of inspiration for you?

My colleagues — working with a team of strong women putting in the work and making it all seem effortless has been a massive inspiration!?

My life is also simply not the same since coming across Full Flower Moon Band — first time seeing ‘Babyshakes Dillon’ live blew my mind!

How do you feel the music industry has evolved in terms of inclusivity and representation of women, particularly in recent years?

It’s great that inclusivity is a topic that comes up more recently, and I think it’s important that it stays on everyone’s mind. There’s always work to do but I think the collective is catching onto the importance of creating inclusive and safe spaces for more brilliant non-male artists and professionals!?

What message would you like to share with aspiring female artists and professionals in the music industry?

Whenever I walk into a space that I’m not sure feels inclusive, I repeat a cheesy TikTok sound in my mind — “Leave the saving of the world to the men? I don’t think so” — and continue on with main character energy.

What female or non-male artist have you enjoyed the most over the past year? ?

The past year, I've been absolutely obsessed with DEHD and SORRY out of the UK, Slow Pulp out of the US, and Full Flower Moon Band and Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys, both bands that I'm extremely lucky to work with and admire!?

Could you share with us a female or non-male individual in the industry who serves as a source of inspiration for you??

Simone Ubaldi (Sundowner), she's an absolute weapon and Kristie McCarthy (Lemon Tree Music) who has been such a great mentor for me over the past few years and Desiree Venuto — this woman is only 25 and one of the best agents in the country. She has such an incredible career ahead of her and it's great to see.?

How do you feel the music industry has evolved in terms of inclusivity and representation of women, particularly in recent years? ?

There has been a growing awareness and advocacy for gender equality in the music industry over the past few years, with more discussions on issues such as equal pay, opportunities for women in various roles within the industry, and challenging gender stereotypes. There is still a massive way to go with an underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, female bands on line ups and the need for continued efforts to create a more inclusive environment. But I feel lucky to be part of a team that values my work and my ability as a woman in the industry, and encourages me to grow.?

What message would you like to share with aspiring female artists and professionals in the music industry??

Embrace your uniqueness — your perspective and experiences are valuable. Surround yourself with likeminded women that make you feel inspired. The music industry, like any other, has its challenges. Be resilient and persistent in pursuing your goals. You have the skills, passion and creativity to make a significant impact. Believe in your talent and recognise your worth. And never be afraid to ask for help. A lot of women are willing to help you, just ask.?

What female or non-male artist have you enjoyed the most over the past year??

It’s got to be Teenies! Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers, taking over the world — one show at a time.?

Could you share with us a female or non-male individual in the industry who serves as a source of inspiration for you??

My gal Ash Hills, GM of our Australian Artist Management team, inspires me daily. Whilst managing some of my favourite artists, she’s also running a huge team and always thinking about how we show up every day to inspire young females of the future. ?

How do you feel the music industry has evolved in terms of inclusivity and representation of women, particularly in recent years??

I think it depends what part you’re in — there’s still a way to go in many parts of our industry, but we’re getting there, and I like to think we’re doing our part. If we keep telling the stories of amazing female and gender diverse leaders in our industry, I think we will continue to see changes for the better.

What message would you like to share with aspiring female artists and professionals in the music industry??

Don’t be afraid to ask for advice, particularly from others females and gender diverse people in your network. The likelihood is that you’re not alone in your experience, and it’s okay to think that you deserve better. ??
