International Women's Day

Rabia Ferroukhi, the senior policy advisor of International Renewable Energy Agency stated in the recent interview with Eco-business that most jobs in the renewable energy sector are handled by men, but there is huge potential in women playing a bigger role in this growing sector. As one of the main authors of ‘Renewable Energy and Jobs’ report, she predicted that women could benefit from the increasing jobs in renewable energy sector in the near future.

Her concern for our planet and future generation drove her to work in renewable energy. ‘We should all look at areas where we can contribute,’ she added. ‘Energy is very important in economic development, and I believe supporting nations in implementing policies that promote cleaner forms of energy can lead us to a more sustainable development path.’

Technical jobs as engineers are still dominated by men because of people’s long-standing perception. Aside of that, renewable energy projects are usually taken place in remote areas, which become a disadvantage for women, for at least more than a quarter of the world still attach them with responsibilities at home. Not to mention, some conservative or poor countries still disregard education for women and girls.
