When it seems that all one hears are complaints, or reads negative comments about our town or any town for that matter, and the all-too-many of those that care enough to support it, distorting the image of what the real DNA of Weston, CT is, the thirty-five Women of Weston honored today, on International Women's Day, and the video, which will be released on Monday, brings to life the true story of the women who have contributed so much to our town.
Thirty-five is merely the tip of the sheer number of women we owe the quality of life Weston brings to the members of our community.
Today is a day we're honoring all the women, named and unnamed, who dedicate their lives and volunteer their time to not just Lachat Town Farm - our epicenter of community, but so many worthy causes that truly make Weston, Connecticut a special place.
The quote, "behind every great man is a great woman", has been attributed to a quarterback, Meryll Frost, in The Port Arthur News, in its publication of February 1946 - seventy-five years ago. Many say it's even older.
But it's not accurate.
I'd dare to say the reality is that it is a woman in front of every man;
a decent man. or one in the moment of his rehabilitation,
in front of those men leading every wonderful town,
ahead of every great inventor and innovator providing the inspiration needed,
leading the care for those unable to care for themselves,
standing as the first line of defense for every government and government official daring to do the right thing,
...is not just one woman, but a phalanx of women, clearing the way, leveling the playing field, Asking for no recognition, fame, or glory.
These are the Women of Weston - far deeper in strength than the thirty-five women chosen to represent them in this video.
To all who made this day in Weston possible, thank you for reaching deep down into your creativity and bringing warmth, respect, and love with the sound, light, and motion of this video, combined with the recognition for all of us to share in.
It's an understatement to say that you've made this day very special for the husbands, partners, sons, daughters, grandchildren, parents, and to the memories of those who've left our world too early to share in the moment
