International Women's Day March 8th
International Women’s Day
“What Can Women Do?”
Presented by IWEC Foundation
Introduction
Microsoft created a commercial in 2016, “What Can Women Make,” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNqSzUdYazw initiated by the company on International Women’s Day. Showing the vast array of careers, products and services that women embark on is a very important message for all our children throughout the world, driving equal opportunities for all genders, and by going viral with this message, all our children (boys and girls alike) will be much more attuned to what women can do outside of the usual roles women have held in the past. IWEC also shares with UN Women a common concern and advocacy for women’s empowerment in the business world, and we, too, understand how important it is that girls know they can do anything - and that boys know that, too.
Our Proposal
On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2017, we take Microsoft’s message a step further and expand the promotion to include other driving concepts such as “What Can Women Do?” perhaps with the sub-messages “What Can Women Make?”, “What Can Women Lead?” What Can Women Achieve?”, etc.
On that day or week, every successful woman business owner around the world is encouraged to go into a local grade school(s) (ages 6, 7, 8) or Girl Scout troops or Boy Scout troops, YM & YWCA’s and other organizations focused on children and address the group/class(es) by stating “I make this” or “I lead that” or” I achieved this” and demonstrate to the class that women can do anything, and are not limited to only being mothers, teachers, nannies, nurses and entertainers.
If the women who run businesses have the capability, they can also take a group(s) of children to their workplace to show the breadth of their power, the vast array of products they manufacture, the amount of employees and operations they lead, and the many innovations and inventions that they have introduced into the market.
Our proposal is simple, but powerful. We ask every women business owner to go out and tell her story! And let us know about your initiative by sharing it with us on our IWEC social media platforms or emailing it to [email protected]
Let’s shine a light and further the development of women’s equality!
