International Women’s Day

International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8th, offers a vibrant platform to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The 2024 campaign theme, "Inspire Inclusion," urges everyone to actively support and value the inclusion of women and girls, fostering a more equitable and diverse world.

Celebrating International Women's Day can take various forms, each aimed at highlighting and supporting women's achievements and struggles. One impactful way to participate is by donating to organizations that support women and girls globally. These organizations work on various fronts, from providing education to fighting for women's rights. Some notable organizations include the Global Fund for Women, Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, Malala Fund, and Educate Girls Globally, among others.

Another meaningful way to participate is by supporting women-owned and led businesses. These businesses often lead in ethical and sustainable practices and play a crucial role in bridging the gender gap in the business world. Shopping from these businesses is a practical step towards supporting women’s economic empowerment.

Additionally, standing with women facing human rights abuses is critical. For instance, supporting women in Iran, who have a long history of resistance against oppression, is one way to contribute. This can be done through educating oneself, participating in protests, contacting elected officials, or donating to organizations like My Stealthy Freedom, which advocates against compulsory hijab laws.

International Women's Day is also an excellent opportunity for cultural and educational activities. Engaging with World Pulse, a women-led social network, or attending International Women's Day events can be enriching. Hosting a dance party with an all-women playlist or a movie marathon featuring films by women filmmakers are enjoyable ways to celebrate. At workplaces and schools, including discussions or activities related to women’s achievements and challenges can raise awareness and foster inclusivity. Ollin Women will be hosting an International Women's Day event from 1130 AM -1:00 PM at the CF Klein Center honoring women in Law and Government.??
