Lost and found- confidence and trust in ourselves
Recently, I had the privilege of spending time with a group of 200 entrepreneurs—a high-energy, enthusiastic crowd eager to learn about ways to make a greater impact in their work and lives. Amidst this vibrant atmosphere, two experiences left me contemplating the significance of International Women's Day.
Firstly, I had the pleasure of meeting bright and vibrant souls like Nicole Bannister, a vibrant and dynamic young American based in Cape Town, deeply involved in youth advocacy and social injustice. Nicole literally?shines. Our conversation initially sparked over her fantastic printed outfit but quickly delved into more profound topics, namely, the journey towards trusting ourselves. Nicole and I shared insights on navigating our own paths towards a deeper connection with ourselves and learning to trust our instincts over insecurities. It was refreshing to dive straight into such a heartfelt discussion, exploring what it means to be human and to authentically inhabit our lives. As the day concluded, we parted ways with warm messages, cherishing the connection forged.
Secondly, towards the end of the day, I found myself hesitating to ask a question. Surrounded predominantly by men, my question felt insignificant and unclear, causing me to shrink back into myself. Ironic I know given my mornings conversation. However, as the last speaker concluded their remarks, I finally mustered the courage to articulate my thoughts. Though my voice may not have sounded as clear and confident as I hoped, it felt important to not hold myself back from participating in the discussion. Sometimes, we may not feel like our boldest selves, but showing up regardless is vital. Waiting for perfection or absolute certainty that we will not make a mistake only delays our readiness. The only thing truly capable of holding us back are our insecure thoughts—and a thought not respected will move along on its own. Instead of trusting our insecure thoughts, let's choose the thoughts and feelings that resonate with our deepest truths and vitality.
