On International Women's day, I think it's time we changed this ancient heroine story and, in doing so, change our own.
It's a big day for me. Scroll down, and you'll find out why.
But before I jump in, I have a question. What does #embraceequity mean to you?
It's International Women's day, and this is the theme this year. I spent some time with this, and this is how I'm reading it.
If you're going to #embraceequity , you will willingly and enthusiastically accept, adopt, and espouse fairness and impartiality.
A lovely idea but surprisingly hard. Why? Because we all judge the potential of the people we meet. We make up a story about them in our heads. I call this telling "tales of potential."
So to enthusiastically accept, adopt and espouse fairness and impartiality, you need to push your tale about them to the side and listen. Easier said than done.
Except for one person I've been obsessed with for a while—someone with a pretty terrible tale of potential in my head, Cinderella.
While she had a lovely attitude, I thought she was ok with others pushing her around. I felt she had no agency. I wrote her off because she needed a prince to rescue her. Not an inspiring tale to tell on this auspicious day.
And then I listened to what she was trying to teach me. And wow. I heard a very different story.
One of agency and courage, of teamwork and goal setting, of staying true to who you are and what you want even when things are hard. It told a story of a woman who, against all the odds, made her dreams come true.
Now that, my friends, is an inspiring story.
It's also a story first written in the 6th Century BCE - or over 2600 years ago. A story with no less than 437 versions worldwide. A story that we are often inspired by as children and learn to revile as teenagers, but never quite goes away.
I think it's time to change that.
This is why on International Women's Day, I think it's time we changed this heroine story and, in doing so, change our own.

And spoiler alert, she had the makings of a modern CEO.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND INSIDE THIS BOOK?
It’s a sassy reframe of the classic Cinderella story that will teach you to stop leaving your future to chance, court magic, and guarantee success on your terms.
What if the magic behind the Cinderella story isn’t a prince and a fairy godmother but strategies for tapping into our potential? Tales of Potential reveals these hidden lessons by shedding new light on a story you thought you knew—and offers practical guidance for becoming your most glittering future self.
I’ve given every part of the Cinderella story a second look (even the Prince) and every chapter shifts your perspective on the story you knew, then bring these ideas into the modern working world. It’s an ambition guide for a modern career
Bonus - because you know I’m as much about action as I am about ideas. Each book comes with a link to simple-to-execute experiments you can complete.
I want to thank the army of people who helped make this shift from an idea to something you can hold in your hands.
Here's to you transforming your tale of potential and making all your dreams come true.
