International Women's Day: close the gap

Eight women share their experiences on the gender gap

Have you ever said to yourself the time is now for change?
Ever appreciated that you have witnessed to change?
Wondered if anyone, up there in government, is doing what it takes to implement change?

We asked these three questions to eight women of different ages and background, to gage what is viewed by women as having already been achieved and what still needs to be achieved.

From Anna, a retired school teacher and community leader to Macha, a student soon to be entering the job market, from Myriam Taylor de Carvalho who is a CEO to Anita who is a make-up artist, all of the eight women interviewed were determined in what they wanted to see change and what they had witnessed as women in regards to gender equality and equity.

Their responses were varied, empowering, insightful and ambitious.

Closing gender gaps and breaking glass ceilings are some of the ways to fight inequality.

The EU is redefining workplace rules with new rules that would help promote gender equality.

Pay transparency

Forthcoming pay transparency rules will give employees the right to know whether their pay is equal to that of colleagues doing the same work.

Gender balance on company boards

According to an objective set in EU rules, at least 40% of non-executive director positions in listed companies should be held by members of the underrepresented sex by 2026.

Work-life balance for parents

The focus is on offering both parents’ family-related leave and flexible working arrangements making it easier for women to participate in the labour market.

It's a great idea to show these women and to read what exactly they experience in their countries. International Women's Day celebrates women's fights from the past but it should definitely include & spotlight the women's fight from the present to make a change for the future...
