International Women’s Day 2024
Goal 5 of the 17 United Nations Office at Geneva Sustainable Development Goals specifically addresses the global challenge of gender #equality and women's #empowerment as adopted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
?????? ?????? ???? ???? ?????????
Albeit some fair progress, the world as a whole is NOT on track to achieve gender equality by 2030 per the #gender snapshot report published September 7 ’23
Given the world’s extant fragile state where man-made wars loom a large reality of our existence, I focus my lens on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), specifically Palestine ????
Their holistic ecosystem now severely aggravated by such manly constructed aggressions. The gendered dimensions of war highlighting how vulnerable populations like women and children are uniquely victimized as a consequence of armed conflict. This includes adolescents, persons with disabilities, pregnant/postpartum women, female headed households etc.
Today in Palestine the below examples stem from the intense punishment campaigns affecting over 1 million of the 1.9 million displaced population
???????? ?????? ????????????????:
??Acute hunger, malnutrition & dehydration (no clean water and food due to denied delivery of humanitarian supplies, 90% of children under two are now subject to severe food poverty with overall death toll at 20 and counting)
??Inadequate hygiene, sanitary conditions and facilities (they lack safe, private and dignified places to manage menstrual hygiene coupled with no access to menstrual products)
??Cesareans, emergency operations, amputations etc. without sterilization, anesthesia or painkillers
??Forced, multiple and massive evacuations, with ~85% of the region’s 2.2 million displaced due to unrelenting bombardments (29,000 bombs destroying 300,000 of 439,000 homes thus far)
??Disrupted/limited access to health & social services resulting in poor mental, sexual and reproductive health (stress-induced miscarriages, stillbirths & premature births etc., miscarriage rate skyrocketing to 300%)
??Acute and infectious diseases (preventible if not for the lack of medicine & basic supplies)
??Physical violence and traumas (disproportionate and indiscriminate attacks on civilians by soldiers and armed settlers, and even during times of attempted aid retrieval)
??No access to education (No Gaza student has been able to attend school since November 6 ’23 with ~280 government schools & 65 UNRWA-run schools destroyed or damaged. Additionally, all or parts of Gaza's 12 universities have been bombed and are now mostly all destroyed)

??No access to stable electricity & internet (rendering the potential of an e-learning model unfeasible due to the extent of these frequent & extended telecom blackouts)
??Separation and/or loss of family (3,000+ women are now widows and thus new household heads, with dozens of families having had over five generations wiped out)
??Lack of privacy and personal space (~1.5 million forced to shelter in makeshift tents in overcrowded refugee camps in a town normally home to only 280,000 people)
??Increased poverty levels (~80% of Gazans live in poverty and are dependent on aid due to the strip’s long forced blockade by occupying forces)
And so forth…
The continued compartmentalization and neglect of these women & children in the DIGITAL calendar year of 2024 serve a stark dubious reflection of our INTELLECT and EMOTION
It severely damages the promotion of peace and security for anyone and everyone. The dignity of ALL women and girls are central to our collective soul! When we PREACH feminist advocacy and international human rights, surely we intend it for EVERYONE...?
Because if so, THEN surely we must reshape society’s polity so as to STAND UP for ALL women and girls across the globe unequivocally and unapologetically, EVERY SINGLE TIME…
