It is also an opportunity to reflect on the progress toward gender equality and the work that still needs to be done. In the technology industry, #Artificial #Intelligence (#AI) is an area where gender parity is lacking. As we celebrate International Women's Day, we should focus on promoting more visibility for women in #AI and encouraging more women to pursue careers in this field.?

What was your dream job as a child??

As a child, I was fascinated by different languages and cultures. I dreamed of working as a translator and traveling around the world.?

Where does your interest in technology come from??

As a kid, I was always excited about participating in science fairs and making simulations of the milky way, solar eruptions, rail networks, etc., to gradually create small computer programs. In addition, my interest in technology is deeply rooted in my liking for #mathematics.?

How do you get into technology??

My interest in mathematics and statistics drove me to obtain a Master's in Statistics. I joined a Digital Analytics company as a Data Scientist, where I was first introduced to #Big #Data! Then, I picked up different programming languages and was excited to work closely with the data. A shift in my preferences toward core #R&D projects helped me get selected for the company's #AI R&D Lab. I started working on #Computer #Vision-based projects and was hooked! After this point, there was no return to work. I knew I had to formally educate myself on #AI and made my way to 比利时荷语天主教鲁汶大学 in Belgium. Currently, a Master's degree in #AI.?Later, I am working at Neotex.ai Belgium on Biometrics Authentication, one of today's most relevant and booming industries.

What do you do on a workday??

On a typical workday, I dedicate most of my time to programming various components of our company's human and animal #Biometrics #Authentication technology, #Halisi. Working on an R&D team includes daily catchups, code reviews, and brainstorming sessions. In addition, I supervised interns working on different modules of our products. I also allocate some time to reading research papers and tech news to keep myself updated about the developments in my industry.?

What would you say is your best professional advice??

The best professional advice came from my mentor and boss, Meshia Cédric Oveneke, PhD . After a long brainstorming session on ideas for our research, I remember my colleague and I were in awe and slightly overwhelmed by the depth and expanse of our domain. That is when our boss gave us the best advice - to be curious about what you are doing. Often, our curiosity helps us reach a deeper understanding and passion for our work. This is precious guidance, especially having received it at the start of my career.?

What advice would you give to younger women just entering the workforce today??

Young women must have immense faith in their abilities. Tech or non-tech (women) need to make conscious decisions in their careers and not shy away from being authentic. I would also urge women to network more!
