SSE Renewables has announced that a variety of renewable energy units, including hydroelectric, pumped storage, battery storage, and onshore wind facilities, have provisionally secured contracts totalling over 1.1GW for the delivery year 2027/28 in Great Britain's most recent T-4 capacity auction.
SMEC and Lombardi join forces with Upper Hunter Hydro for pumped storage projects
SMEC and Lombardi Engineering Group are partnering to provide Owners’ Engineer Services to Upper Hunter Hydro (UHH), who recently secured a development agreement from WaterNSW to explore two major pumped hydro projects capable of storing over 1000MW. The agreement grants UHH the opportunity to investigate and design two pumped storage systems, potentially integrating wind energy, at Glenbawn and Glennies Creek on WaterNSW land. These projects are situated within the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone, which is a vital region in enabling the transition to renewable energy by utilising exiting energy infrastructure, resources, and the skilled workforce.
Wave energy has vital role in meeting net zero ambitions says new report
A new report from LUT University Finland has highlighted the pivotal role of wave energy in achieving a cost-effective net zero energy system. According to the research findings, the UK should aim to harness 27GW of wave energy to realize this ambitious goal. This report?coincides with a significant milestone for Swedish developer CorPower Ocean who recently announced the successful commissioning of its first full-scale wave energy device.
