Study finds US hydropower generation may increase despite climate variability
Anational study has found that overall hydropower production in the United States could increase over the next 15 years despite climate change causing regional and seasonal variations. The research, conducted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is the largest assessment of its kind to date and analyzed 1544 facilities across the contiguous United States.
China approves construction of world’s largest hydropower dam in Tibet
China has given the green light for the construction of the world’s largest hydropower dam on the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, according to Reuters. The project aims to produce 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, dwarfing the capacity of the Three Gorges Dam, currently the largest hydropower facility in the world.
Hydro Tasmania awards Edgar Dam upgrade to local business
Hydro Tasmania has awarded the contract to upgrade the Edgar Dam to Tasmanian civil construction company Hall Earthmoving. Work on the project will begin in late January 2025.
Kleinschmidt and Anchor QEA launch fish passage project for Upper Columbia United Tribes
Kleinschmidt Associates, an environmental and hydropower consulting firm, has partnered with Anchor QEA to lead the development of fish passage systems at Chief Joseph and Grand Coulee dams. The project, undertaken for the Upper Columbia United Tribes (UCUT), seeks to reintroduce salmon to historical habitats blocked by the dams. These two facilities are among the largest hydropower producers in the US and the last in the Columbia River system without fish passage systems.

USBR invests $10.7 million in Angostura Dam spillway repairs
The US Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $10,708,466 contract to T1 Construction LLC, based in North Bend, Oregon, to repair the Angostura Dam spillway.
