International visitors to The Centre
This week The Centre has been visited by Roos Schouw, Editor in chief of Dialogue Vintage Photography Magazine and Focus fotomagazine, and Koos Breukel a notable photographer whose special interest is historic photo processes and techniques.
They were at The Centre to explore and review the Moor’s nearly 50 years developing techniques for the conservation of historic photographic materials. Their work, and particularly the conference The Centre organized and funded in 1992, and the subsequent publication, Ref 1., the first to solely focus upon the Preservation and Conservation of historic photographs was pivotal in bringing together scientists, collectors, curators and conservators internationally in this specialist field. The Centre has offered professional development training since 1981 culminating in, an in-depthOnline Teaching Course teaching on the Degradation of Historic Photographs, extensively illustrated with images from The Centre’s Teaching Collection
An understanding of the causes of degradation and their manifestation in historic photographs is fundamental to and impacts every aspect of our interaction with photographs; their identification and preservation including housing, storage environment, handling, usage and exhibition.
Not only are the course video modules full of the theory and explanation of the Degradation of Photographic Materials they are extensively illustrated with high quality 4K visual examples from The Centre's unique photographic image collection, giving you long-term access to your own reference library of content and examples.
