International Suicide Prevention Day: Indian and Western Philosophy on Assisted Suicide Programs

This article is written by A. Tiwari

Despite the major discussion on SUICIDES in India and around the world ?? due to career failure, love, and severe trauma from law enforcement neglect or abuse, suicides due to COVID vaccine injury are surprising and we must make vaccine injury data public to fix the accountability.

A Hollywood actress died by assisted suicide in Switzerland in June 2023 after failing to wear chronic illness symptoms after the Covid vaccination (Reference link 1 and 2).

While Asian countries struggle with mental health care and job security, resulting in a 4% annual increase in student suicide in India alone (NCRB data), mental health workers strive to prevent it, we must not ignore the need to raise our voices to STOP ?? an increasing trend of assisted suicides in western countries like Switzerland, Canada, and New Zealand.

This trend is increasing maybe because their governments and departments of social justice and family welfare are avoiding taking accountability.

It may surprise you that countries like the Netherlands allow euthanasia for special needs children under 12 (reference link 3).

Despite rapid development, the literate Indians always value and care for mentally ill people and remain connected with the human part of mental illnesses and we never want to see our kins die because we can't care of them, exceptions to a few rare cases where poor people and mentally sick people get rid of their disabled relatives, but we also have a law to punish them.

I, even not being trained in suicide prevention, have saved nearly 5 lives by giving a nonjudgemental ear and timely bring the help to those people.

What are your brave stories of helping people get help with nonjudgmental listening as a mental health expert, student, or community member?
