Despite its modest size, Singapore is home to over 90 international schools, catering to the city's diverse expatriate community. Known for its political stability, robust economy, and exceptional quality of life, Singapore has become a desirable destination for multinational corporations and expatriate families. As a result, international schools have long been the preferred choice for these families, offering globally recognized curricula such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), British, American, and French systems. However, in recent years, a growing trend has emerged among expatriates: sending their children to local schools in Singapore.
The Appeal of Local Schools for Expat Families
While international schools continue to flourish, an increasing number of expatriate families are opting to enroll their children in local schools. The Singaporean education system is known for its high academic standards and strong focus on mathematics, science, and bilingualism (English and a second language, typically Mandarin). Local schools offer a rigorous curriculum and are significantly more affordable than international schools.
By choosing local schools, expatriate families can immerse their children in Singapore’s culture and provide them with a strong foundation in Mandarin, a valuable language in today’s global economy. For families who plan to settle in Singapore for the long term, this choice helps children integrate into the local community and adapt to the social and academic environment.

However, there's a reason why parents from neighbouring countries all want to send their kids here to study.
