International Organisations

Apologies for my LinkedIn radio silence in recent weeks. And apologies if I've been terrible at replying to DMs & emails: If you need something from me, please just give me a nudge or send it again!
When attempting to buy a massive, crumbling farmhouse in Italy with the hope of one day converting it into a community space, don't ever expect things to go to plan. I'm actually now in France (not in the Italian house I was supposed to have bought four days ago). But it's a long story, that you can read more about here, if you're interested.
Anyway, as I'm all international this week. I wanted to share some international organisations with you who are working in the social justice arena.
Support someone in prison on your lunch break -
I first learned about Prisoners Abroad because of the wonderful Christopher Stacey . Living in Italy, I'm trying to figure out a way that I can join in and get involved with the work they do, but here is a simple thing we can all do today:
On the website, you can send a message of hope and support to someone affected by overseas imprisonment.

Care4Calais have been on my radar forever. Unfortunately, every time I've tried to go and volunteer on the ground, I've tested positive for covid. But I'm determined to get to Calais this year and get to work in their warehouse. The volunteers work tirelessly, often facing hostility in the process, because they have seen firsthand the conditions people are living in as they escape their home country. You might not be able to give your time volunteering, but you can donate the essentials they need to distribute to refugees and asylum seekers.

It might not seem related to international charity work, but bear with. I first heard John McAvoy on Rich Roll's podcast years ago and you can read his book here.
His story, from armed robber & prison segregation units, to finding redemption through the power of sport is so interesting and inspiring. But I want to share his information with you because of the work John does out in nature, with young people, in Europe.
The Alpine Run Project is the latest, and I love the concept. It's exactly the kind of thing I hope to do in the future, from the property I'm buying in the mountains in Italy. John has teamed up with a number of organisations to bring young people to the mountains, to move and run in nature and experience the inspiration he gets from being out in this landscape. Hopefully one day I'll be able to announce something similar, but for now give John a follow on Insta to find out more.

Helping young people and those in prison make positive decisions
1 年I had the great good fortune to volunteer in Calais for four separate weeks in 2016, when the Jungle was like a small town. It was one of the great experiences of my life.
