International Gas Union is in the process of updating its strategy towards sustainibility.

During various meetings this week in Cairo, IGU not only elected its future president ( Eng. Cav. Khaled Abubakr , see previous post), but also worked on its future strategy.

The work is still in progress, and wording isn't final, but the debates showed a strong support from the members to two important ideas :

1) the fact that in promoting "Gas" the IGU fully embraces the potential of natural gas, low-carbon, decarbonised (inc with CCUS) and renewable gases (inc. hydrogen, biomethane, syntetic gas and e-methane) to drive a deep decarbonisation of the energy system,

2) the full support of IGU to the Paris Agreement and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce GHG emissions.

I'm looking forward to the official publication of this new strategic position paper !
