International Dog Day: Celebrating Security with our pups
At Snyk, we take two things very seriously:
Security and dogs.
As we’ve all shifted to working remotely, we’ve gotten a different view into the homes and personal lives of our colleagues, partners, and customers. I LOVE when I get to say hello to someone’s child who is wondering who their parent has been talking to. It’s a great reminder of why we all work so hard each day—we’ve got partners, families, and pets that we love!
To celebrate International Dog Day, I’d like to reflect on a few of the values that Snyk shares with our furry canine friends.
· Alertness: My dog is often mid-slumber, dreaming about squirrels and drooling while I’m on Zoom calls. She is awake and at the window in a flash when the FedEx driver pulls up to our house to deliver a package. In her mind, her instant reaction and scary bark makes him jump back into his truck and drive off.
The Snyk team knows that the developers using our tool need to build applications quickly. Our tools integrate early into the SDLC to alert them of any Open Source vulnerabilities in their code and gives them remediation guidance. Our integration into the SDLC and auto-remediation allows them to have more time in the day to securely build more applications, nap, yell at FedEx drivers, etc.
· Problem Solving: One thing I’ve learned from my dogs is that when they want something, they are determined to figure out how to get it. My husband and I thought we were smart by putting a baby lock on our kitchen cabinet where the dog food is stored. She then figured out how to pull the cabinet completely off the hinges (anyone know a good contractor?) This took her a few days to think about how to do this, but she did a good bit of analysis and was able to get around this obstacle to get a positive outcome for herself and her brother.
Snyk has the best security research team out there that is just as relentless about finding vulnerabilities as my dog is trying to find to a few extra snacks. Our security team is researching around the clock, and we have the largest vulnerability database out there because of their efforts. They just uncovered SourMint, a malicious code, ad fraud, and data leak in iOS that impacts 1,200 apps.
· Pack Mentality: My two dogs are BFFs. If I take one on a walk without the other, I hear howling and barking from the left behind comrade as soon as I shut the door. They complement each other well, and love to cause mischief together. If I walk to the mailbox, they act like I’ve been gone for decades when I open the front door.
Snyk sees these same values in our partnerships. In order to succeed in our mission to make open source usage secure, we need our partner community. We are stronger together and help our mutual customers solve some of their most difficult challenges in the Cloud-Native Application Security Space. I usually bark and yip anytime I have to spend too much time without my partners!
These are just a few of the attributes that align well with our doggos. I’d love to hear what you think are some additional attributes that your company shares with (wo)man’s best friend in the comments!
Please let me know if you’re interested in joining the Snyk Pack as a partner, customer, or teammate. & Don’t forget to give your dog an extra treat today!

4 年How refreshing! And so very true. I think there's also something to be said in the power of connection; how a situation that imposes distancing ourselves has ironically led us to increased connection via video meetings, increased FaceTime with friends/family, and for those us crazy dog people who have puppy cams with treat dispensers on the occasion that we're not home :D Awesome article!

4 年This is an awesome post Courtney! Even though I have two cats.
This is fantastic! Thank you! I think of Loyalty. The loyalty of a Dog is like no other. That loyalty makes me thing of the following: -Snyk continuously driving to ensure we are changing the world one developer at a time. -Loyalty to the employees and making sure we create and maintain a culture of excellence in all we do first and foremost. -Loyalty to a Channel Eco-System that will level up how organizations rate and reduce their risk posture in a modern application digitally transformed era.
