The International Day of Peace

President & Founder - Shanti Sahyog - a Gandhian NGO
Set up in 1981, the UN has marked 21st September as 'The International Day of Peace', to reinforce peace, amity, friendship and goodwill amongst nations and their citizens. This is the reason why, on this day, 24 hours of nonviolence & cease-fire are observed in raging conflict situations around the world.
The year 2020 is very significant, as it is the UN’s 75th anniversary. To mark it, the UN has invited millions of people worldwide to join UN75, the largest and furthest-reaching global conversation on building the peaceful and prosperous future that we want. No wonder then, the theme for International Day of Peace 2020, is:
'Shaping Peace Together'.
Since 2020 is meant to be a year of listening and learning for the UN, we would like to inform all of you, who have signed our petition #ChooseNonviolentDefence, that Shanti Sahyog Centre for Peace & Conflict Resolution, India (SS CPCR) will be taking our International Initiative for the Political Legitimization of Nonviolent Conflict Resolution to the UN, since it is line with UN SDG 16.
So dear Signatories, your voice is more important than ever, as this International Day of Peace & this year 2020, will be dedicated to fostering dialogue and collecting ideas. So please forward our petition #ChooseNonviolentDefence to family and friends https://chng.it/pNQKWT8byC and help us collect at least 50,000 signatures to present to the UN. There is much truth in Mahatma Gandhi’s maxim:
"The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.”
