International Day of Charity 5th September 2019
Tomorrow is one of the important days for humanity. It′s a day to think about people who don′t live their lives as well as we do. People without a happy family, a safe working place or an opportunity for a good education. And it′s a day for making it easier to promote charity work and contribute to a better world.
But first: What is the International Day of Charity and where did it come from?
In 2011 the Hungarian government assumed the application of a Hungarian civil society initiative and went with this to the United States. They advised about this application and declared this day in December 2012.
They chose the date for this special day in honour of the work of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. It is the 5th September because this is the date of the anniversary of her death.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a woman who went in her early years to India and helped poor and side-lined people. For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned and dying people, first in India and then in other countries. In 1979 she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her voluntary work during her life.
They decided to declare this date in recognition of her big role in the world of charity.
What does all this have to do with me?
First of all, charity is everyone′s business. And it is sometimes so easy to help. This day is for eliminate societal and cultural barriers. It is also a chance to strengthen the cohesion in schools, counties and companies.
