International Conference - "Wine Tourism with Green Sense"

On October 3rd and 4th, Amarante will host the International Conference on Wine Tourism with Green Sense, organized by the Association of Municipalities of Douro and Tamega and the Business Association of Amarante. This event, part of the wine tourism project Verde Sentido, is supported by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

Portugal has increasingly prioritized wine tourism as a key element of its national tourism strategy. The Wine Tourism Action Program (2019-2021) laid the groundwork for promoting Portugal’s wine and culinary heritage, while also aligning with the goals outlined in the Tourism Strategy 2027.

In line with this vision, the Association of Municipalities of Douro and Tamega (AMDT) has championed innovation and regional competitiveness through its BTinova project. The Verde Sentido Enogastronomic Itinerary highlights local landscapes, gastronomy, and Vinho Verde, positioning the Douro and Tamega region as a standout ecotourism destination.

This conference aims to further elevate the Douro and Tamega regions as premier wine tourism destinations, leveraging their proximity to Porto, a member of the Great Wine Capitals network. The event will feature a day of insightful talks by national and international experts and an experiential day, allowing participants to engage with the local wine tourism offerings firsthand. These activities are designed to foster collaborations that will continue to promote Douro and Tamega as leading destinations for wine tourism.

The conference, which already has the backing of Turismo Porto and North of Portugal, will address the theme "Wine Tourism with Green Sense: Heritage, Communication, and Innovation". Experts will share their insights on promoting wine tourism, showcasing best practices and discussing challenges in developing a tourism sector centered on high-quality wine production, with lessons drawn from the Great Wine Capitals network.

This event represents a valuable opportunity for collaboration, growth, and learning in the evolving world of wine tourism.
