DAY 1 SUMMARY
11:00 – 11:15 – INTRODUCTION
11:15- 11:30 - INTER-CULTURAL PERFORMANCE. The cultural dance performance was presented by Ahlcon International school India and the University of Santo Tomas Philippines whilst Cara Vianca Funa- the Editorial and content mentor of the Global Citizenship foundation played host.
11:30- 11:50 - Welcome Note by the President of GCF- Aaryan Salman; The president expressed the impact of Education in his life as a first-generation president of the foundation whilst he acknowledged the influence of teachers in achieving transformational education.
11:50 – 12:30 - State of Education Address by Dr. Ashok Pandey, director of the Ahlcon group of schools, and David Adam (Chief Executive Officer, the urban assembly New York, USA).
Dr. Pandey defined transformative Education by UNESCO as
“Education which involves the teaching and learning geared to motivate and empower learners to make informed decisions and actions at the individual, community and global level.”
He posited the questions on transformative education by UNESCO which is concerned with having a deep-down practice to identify:

Mr. David Adam added that
“Education is the flagship of human progress as educated people significantly influence social change. The core influence is social capital which he described as the foundation of educational development. Developing social and emotional character or domains of learning helps foster conflict resolution, activism, and advocacy.
UNESCO defines Education
"as a process of facilitating learning or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits whilst Quality education specifically entails issues such as appropriate skills development, gender parity, provision of relevant school infrastructure, equipment, educational materials, and resources, scholarships or teaching force."
However, when all of these are realized we can say that quality education has been achieved.
12:30 – 12:40 - Book Launch Authored by Dr. Linnyllan Guo- Brennan
12:45 – 13: 45 -Keynote Address Dr. Aaliyah S. Samuel, the CEO of CASEL who delivered the keynote address highlighted what it looks like in schools, and communities and how we can best prepare our young people for the future through social and emotional learning.
On the theme, “Defining Systemic Social and Emotional Learning” she advised educators to make evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) a part of every child. Collaboration in social and emotional learning is how best to connect and work with others to achieve a common goal. SEL doesn’t include educators alone, but to have a systemic SEL, it must include communities, families, and students.
COMPETENCIES OF SEL: Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness (it deals with how we empathize with others and understand their perspective). relationship skills and responsible decision-making.
Where does Social and Emotional Learning happen? Classrooms, schools, families, and community.
Dr. Aaliyah concluded that the fundamental principles of social and emotional learning (SEL) are essential to education in all parts of the world. That is why today’s Social Emotional Learning is a global priority.
13:45 – 14: 30 - Networking: the session ended with a 45-minute networking session where participants were matched to converse one on one with fellow participants for a limited time duration.
