International Code Council (ICC) Online Governmental Consensus Voting Is Now Open - Vote Disapproval of ADM47 - UL 60335-2 Re: Flammable Refrigerants
The Online Governmental Consensus Vote (OGCV) is now open and will close on Friday, December 6th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
The membership disapproved ADM47 (the update of UL 60335-2) at the live code hearings in Las Vegas in October based upon testimony from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the Colorado Fire Marshals, building officials, and a host of other safety advocates.
The update would modify the International Residential Code (IRC) to allow the introduction of flammable refrigerants in residential dwellings in fixed systems. The fire service has opposed this change until such time as several safety concerns have been addressed. This same issue has been disapproved in the past year by membership votes in the International Fire Code (IFC), the International Mechanical Code (IMC), and the Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC). The specific concerns of the various fire service entities can be found here.
If you are from an ICC Governmental voting agency please consider the voting guides of ICC Region 6 (Northeast), the California Fire Chiefs Fire Prevention Officer’s, the International Association of Building Officials, and the National Association of State Fire Marshals all posted here and in support of DISAPPROVAL of the update.
