International BIM/GIS Conference in Prague – 4 x HTW Dresden, Faculty of Spatial Information

The two-day international conference “Measurement, Visualization and Processing in BIM for Design and Construction Management II” (7-8 February 2022, Prague) was organized by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) at the Technical University in Prague (CVUT).

After the welcome speech from Roman Shults (Michigan Tech, USA), Prof. Christian Clemen opened the conference with the key notes on the topic: TRENDS IN BIM AND GIS STANDARDIZATION - REPORT FROM THE JOINT ISO/TC59/SC13-ISO/TC211 WG: GIS-BIM. He presented the results of the ISO working group, which analyzed in the years 2018-2021 how standards for digital information models from construction/BIM and surveying/GIS can be harmonized.

Felix Gruner (research assistant, HTW Dresden) presented the results of the research project "ProgressPatch" and demonstrated a new method for registering 3D laser scan point clouds with a digital building model. The article CO-REGISTRATION OF TLS POINT CLOUDS WITH SCAN-PATCHES AND BIM-FACES was written jointly by Felix Gruner, Enrico Romanschek, Daniel Wujanz (technet GmbH) and Christian Clemen.

Dr. Tim Kaisers (Postdoc, HTW Dresden) paper CO-REGISTRATION OF VIDEO-GRAMMETRIC POINT CLOUDS WITH BIM - FIRST CONCEPTUAL RESULTS showed the first interim results on the connection of videogrammetric 3D reconstruction with digital building models (BIM). The VideoBIM research project is carried out jointly by the HTW faculties of Spatial Information (Dr. Kaiser/Prof. Clemen), Mathematics/Computer Science (Prof. Block-Berlitz) and Civil Engineering (Prof. Flederer).

In an online session, Sebastian Schilling (research assistant, HTW Dresden) presented his work on PRACTICAL EXAMPLES ON BIM-GIS INTEGRATION BASED ON SEMANTIC WEB TRIPLESTORES. Sebastian Schilling and Christian Clemen investigate how graph databases and object-relational geodatabases can be efficiently used in a common microservice infrastructure.

The conference offered all participants numerous technical discussions and also served to deepen the ERASMUS partnership between CVUT Prague and HTW Dresden. The conference will continue to be held annually.
