International Albinism Awareness Day Event

A line up of Team mates from Kenyan and Tanzania greeting each other before the match. The Kenyan Team is on Orange uniform while Tanzanian in Green. Majority of the players have Albinism while a few come from the Short Stature Community. We are also seeing the coaches lined up excited for the match to start

International Albinism Awareness Day was a remarkable day for me as I joined my friends and colleagues at City Stadium, Nairobi to enjoy an amazing football match between Kenya and Tanzania.

Four male individuals laughing on the field as the football match is in progress. They are people from the short stature community. One in red and black is holding a water battle facing his friend holding the same water bottle enjoying a good time.

I noted the initiative Black Albinism Africa and my friends (differently abled community) are doing in championing inclusion, as you can see from the pictures [attached] nurturing and supporting each others talents in sports.

11 team mates from the Kenyan team holding a trophy. They came second where they lost to TZ 4 - 3. They are wearing orange t-shirts and white shorts facing the camera with a smile. The photo is taken on the field after the game ended.

Something that I pondered throughout the day was, how many differently-abled persons get a chance to nurture their talent and passion in a competitive environment?

6 players on the pitch. 4 are trying to tackle an opponent.

What are we doing as individuals to show support and lend a hand when they need it?

How inclusive are we in our programs?

5 kenyan players cerebrating a goal as the referee is seen signaling them to resume the match. They are all smiles. They wearing orange t-shirts and white shorts and socks

Nonetheless, my highlight for the day is seeing our Kenyan football team competing with the Tanzania team where we lost ((TZ were good my friends, you should have been there ??))

Team players from TZ in green uniform lifting their trophy as they celebrate. They are also joined by the match officials, sponsors and fans. They are wearing green T-shirts and blue shorts.

and seeing how initiative like these brings people from all walks of lives, communities and football fans just enjoying a thrilling day in honor of our brothers and sisters from the albinism community.

Let's all embrace and learn to appreciate these small wins that impact hugely the lives of the undeserved.
