Internalize the Revolution- Part 2
As I said the SWrization of the business is one of the key aspects for the telcos to lift themselves up in the value chain and monetize the existing services better than earlier. 2 very important dimensions in this,- being customer centric and organization capability.
When I say customer centric it does not mean that the current mode of operation is not customer centric but the question here is the readiness to keep pace with the dynamic demand of customers and the supply side economy of the services. On the Internet services side due to the service providers business model, the penetration is happening much faster than anticipated and it is also possible to leverage quickly the technical platforms that are already there. Not only prototyping the ability to scale is much stronger because of the already development that has happened in technologies like Cloud, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, APIs etc.
People and organization capability is key here to match and compete. And then comes the partnering part, however I would still stress very much on the vision part! Because the IT and SW world is quite vast and quite fragmented, you can't just pick everything in this world! The long term vision and strategy should be quite well thought and bets to put upon on particular areas and work on the skill requirement accordingly. Nevertheless the point is how telcos can migrate more from a hard resources based organization to a more Soft based company, and I have my own hypothesis here. At one hand you need the know-how and competence of the telco value chain and on the other hand you need to SWrize the whole operation and business. Options are to create an environment where both skills are available in the organization and these two breeds can co-create the future operating tools, systems and processes even for the core operation, and needless to say for the services part as well!
