If you ask a business owner what their biggest challenge is in today’s work environment, it will more than likely have to do with talent... the retaining, training, engaging, hiring and productivity of people.
“Even without remote work, the way we work in person will likely never be quite the same. Finding, hiring, and engaging with employees is different in a world where remote is becoming more and more common. Are you prepared to reimagine your office spaces and the way you engage with your employees?” (from a January 2021 article by Daisy Ein)
So, what is Internal Marketing? It is the internal communication strategy with each and every employee in which you:
- inform them of the organization’s overall goals and strategies. Benefit: reinforces how their work ties into the greater good of the organization.
- educate the organization as a whole on all your products and services and ideal client profile(s). Benefit: creates Brand Ambassadors.
- to ensure that leadership has their and the clients’ best interests at heart. Benefit: ties directly into building a culture of trust.
Still unsure internal marketing is a good idea?
“Gallup data show that only 13% of employees strongly agree the leadership of their organization communicates effectively with the rest of the organization.”
13%... not good!
There are right ways and wrong ways to build out your internal marketing strategies. Ask yourself a few vital questions: (compliments of my friends at humanworks)
- What has been the impact of COVID on internal communications?
- What are your internal marketing channels? Which needs more attention?
- What critical elements need to be communicated?
- How do you know if your communications are working?
