Internal and external exposure is key for successful leadership in product management and sales

The figure shows recommended percentages of how much of their working time managers should spend on internal (40%) and external (50%) tasks that contribute to their presentation. The percentages are target values for experienced managers. Newcomers generally have to spend more time on administrative tasks. The values given are not yet supported by empirical research, but there is no doubt that networking and exposure are key to successful leadership and the careers of managers.
