Internal Ecosystem (1st Dimension) - Data and Governance (3rd Element) of 3D Analytics Framework
Data points are the atoms out of which Analytics is made. In simple words, there is no analytics without data. Data exists in some form or format - it could be in tabular form or in audio, video or image format too.?
No amount of analytical software or jugglery can make up for the absence of data. It is the oxygen - the lifeline of Analytics!!
Check out what data you have before you get into finding answers (or making decisions) and if the answer is not so positive, it is ‘time to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty’.
It is important to understand at what stage of maturity an organization is currently in with respect to Data and its Governance.? Patchy or non-existent data collection exists in organisations at the ‘ad hoc stage’ and as the organisation progresses to higher levels of maturity, the data collection, storage and distribution process becomes more well–defined, automated, well governed and decentralised.? These organizations treat data and analytics as a ‘Corporate Asset’.

Identifying relevant data, having an understanding of the quantum of data required, and being able to evaluate its quality (good data is the one which is complete, accurate and timely) are the key requirements for successful analytics.? The complexity, size and depth of the analytics solution is a function of the complexity, size and depth of the dataset in question. If the data is simple, then a simple spreadsheet program would do the job. As the data gets more complex, so does the depth of the Analytics solution.
Today’s graphic given above represents what we have said right here. It can also be found with more detailed information and insights in figure 5.6 on page 64 of the book “Analytics Demystifiedâ€.? I have also shared my personal story of what happened when Mount Agung in Bali was about to erupt and the challenges the Indonesian Government faced due to non availability of data.
