An Internal Dialogue with Fear

Why is Fear so good at its job?
Fear’s purpose is to prevent us from realizing our dreams
In that purpose Fear often finds success
Fear manipulates our perception of the unknown,
And it thrives when we adhere to its advice
When Fear succeeds in its purpose, our purpose is inversely affected
Every time we give in to Fear’s whimsy, our ability to realize our dreams diminishes
As years pass, we begin accepting our fearful life as adequate
We must recognize that only WE have the ability to combat Fear
“You shouldn’t get on that plane, who knows if you’ll make it to your destination. Stay here where it is safe.” Fear petitions
“But if I follow your advice Fear, I won’t even give myself the opportunity to arrive to my destination.”
“At least you mitigate the risk of dying in a crash, don’t you enjoy being alive?” Fear refutes
“What is the point of being alive then? Is it to protect my mortality until I lie on my innocuous death bed, where I will contemplate a life that mirrors my current position? Or, do I risk inconvenience, failure, and maybe even death, all of which are inevitable throughout a fulfilling life’s course, in order to achieve my purpose?”
“I would rather die on my journey, knowing I made an effort to reach my goal, versus dying in a seemingly comfortable bed full of regrets.”
Our focus should not be on a future that is unknown and ultimately out of our control
To quote Paolo Coelho, author of the Alchemist, “The secret is here in the present. If we pay attention to the present, we can improve upon it. And, if we improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.”
Only we have the ability to silence Fear and choose to fill our life with meaningful experience
