Internal communication during a crisis

Internal communication during a crisis

Exactly 2 weeks ago, I announced that my team and I had joined the "workforce of the future" by opting to work remotely; and like everything new, there always some challenges.

Here are 5 internal communication tips in case you have also found yourself in these unchartered waters;

1. Internal communication often must take precedence over external, before any constructive action can take place, employees' morale must be present. So, communicate and do so with empathy. As a PR firm, I can say we "eat our own cooking", employees are a key stakeholder in times of crisis, so communicate to and with them.

2. Create a regular cadence of communication by letting your team know when they expect to hear from you.

3. Be flexible and remember we are in this together.

4. Create time and check-in with each team member individually.

5. Be open to feedback - If you practice an open-door policy like me, maintain the virtual door open.

Whatever you do, remember; silence communicates loudest when in crisis.

What are your tips?
