The Intern Perspective: Making my Mark

On June 7, Lincoln graciously welcomed more than one hundred interns into the mix for the summer as the second virtual internship program kicked off. We were introduced to the team that leads the intern program and received a warm welcome from Dennis Glass, President and CEO, and Jen Warne, EVP and Chief People Officer

Dennis and Jen talked about their personal experiences starting as young professionals and ending with where they are today. They each shared their views in response to intern questions and offered advice on how we can leverage this summer to gain experience and increase our exposure, both within and outside of Lincoln.

Dennis encouraged us to “put ourselves out there this summer and step outside of our comfort zones.” This advice resonated with me and compelled me to sign up to be an intern reporter for this year’s Executive Speaker Series. While I am not the strongest writer, as soon as the intern reporter series was mentioned, I considered Dennis’s advice and signed up so I could share my internship perspectives with employees. The session featuring Dennis and Jen increased my excitement and confirmed that spending my summer with Lincoln Financial Group was a great decision.

In the coming weeks, I will be spending a significant amount of time with t Claim’s Operations, under the umbrella of Group Protection. ?After spending the past few weeks learning about Lincoln and meeting colleagues with whom I will be spending most of my time with this summer, I am eager to learn more about the inner workings of Claims and build my Lincoln knowledge!!

As Victor Taiwo, AVP, Talent,?mentioned during orientation, there were close to 7,000 applicants for this year’s summer internship program. I’m convinced that, by selecting Lincoln, I chose the best way to spend the summer and I can only hope to also prove that Lincoln made the right choice in selecting me.?
