"As an intern, I truly became an integral part of the entire team"
Beaulieu International Group
B.I.G. is a global specialist in flooring & material solutions.
In the third year of his applied computer science program, Tanguy Montaine faced the challenge of finding an engaging internship. At that moment, some IT challenges at Beaulieu International Group (B.I.G.) caught his eye. Tanguy specializes in data science and artificial intelligence but chose to explore a different IT path during his internship at B.I.G.
Hi Tanguy! Why did you choose an internship at B.I.G., and what specific direction did you take within the IT department?
Tanguy: "Beaulieu International Group is a renowned name and a family business with a distinctive international character, which greatly appealed to me. On the ?job site, I saw two interesting internship vacancies: one related to my field of study and the other within the domain of Manufacturing Execution System (MES). I see an internship as an opportunity to learn, so I opted for the challenge within MES. Also, I immediately clicked with my internship supervisor Bram Hertens, which further reinforced my choice."
“I could always count on someone, and there was always someone ready to help me out when I hit a roadblock. I genuinely felt that time and effort were invested in me.”
Clearly a well-thought-out decision. What specific tasks were you able to undertake during your internship at B.I.G.?
Tanguy: "The interesting part was that I didn't have to work on a predefined project but truly became part of the entire team working on MES. In the initial phase, I had the time to get acquainted with specific programs and standardizations. Once I mastered that, I could take over tasks from team members, allowing them to focus on long-term projects. This way, as a full-fledged team member, I could make a valuable contribution to the team. In conversations with fellow students, I noticed that my internship was at a significantly higher level than theirs."

Have you grown during your internship at B.I.G., both as an IT professional and personally?
Tanguy: "Absolutely, I've made significant progress on both fronts. As an IT professional, I discovered new things and gained practical experience. Learning in a real-world setting is incomparable to what you get in the classroom. But also, on a personal level, it was a tremendous evolution. The way interns are treated here was a real eye-opener. Bram and the team guided me admirably. I could always count on someone, and Bram was always ready to help me out when I hit a roadblock. I genuinely felt that time and effort were invested in me."

Would you recommend an internship at Beaulieu International Group to students seeking an internship?
Tanguy: "Absolutely! I've already done that. I not only learned a lot here but also thoroughly enjoyed the constructive atmosphere and positive vibe."
Bram Hertens, ICT MES Consultant and internship supervisor of Tanguy
"Tanguy was more than a valued team member. We imparted new knowledge to him in certain areas, but he, in turn, enriched us with fresh insights. Tanguy wholeheartedly tackled tasks that we didn't always get to, allowing others to focus on different projects. This resulted in progress on various fronts, progress from which we will reap the benefits for a long time."
