Intermittent Fasting Can Lower Your Blood Pressure

New research from the Baylor College of Medicine has demonstrated that intermittent fasting can reduce high blood pressure by changing the microbiota.
Researchers investigated how a particular type of rate known as spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rate (SHRSP) reacted to either fasted or regularly fed groups.
Two groups were examined. Group one was SHRSP and normal rats fed every other day, while group two, the control group, was SHRSP and normal rats with unrestricted food availability.
After nine weeks, the researchers observed two things:
1.????The SHRSP rats that had unrestricted feeding had higher blood pressure than the normal rats.
2.????The SHRSP rats that fasted every other day had significantly reduced blood pressure compared to SHRSP rats that had not fasted.
The researchers then found the microbiota induced by fasting was sufficient to mediate the blood pressure-lowering effect of intermittent fasting.

Here’s what you can take home from this study:
1.????Fasting protocols may be a drug-free option to lower blood pressure by changing the gut microbiota.
2.????The research is mounting that regular fasting can positively impact gut and immune health.
3.????Check with your doctor to see if intermittent fasting is right for you.

?Again, like any new exercise or health program, check with your doctor to be sure it’s right for you.
