Interior Design, Fashion, and Empowering Women: Desta Ntamere’s Story

In this week’s episode of Talk with Coach, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the dynamic Desta Ntamere. With 20 years of experience in interior design and personal styling, Desta's unique approach to transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary works of art has been nothing short of inspiring.
We kicked off the conversation talking about how the pandemic changed the game for her and many others in the design and styling industries. She shared how interior design saw a surge of interest during the lockdown as people sought to refresh their homes, making them more functional for a time when work, school, and life all happened under one roof. Meanwhile, personal styling took a backseat, with “Zoom dressing” becoming the norm—looking sharp from the waist up while wearing pajamas down below!
One key takeaway from Desta was her advice on authenticity in business. Whether you're building a brand or simply trying to expand your network, being yourself is the ultimate game-changer. "Your people will find you when you're authentic," Desta reminded us. This is such a valuable lesson for anyone in business, especially those who are hesitant to put themselves out there on social media or in networking situations.
We also dove deep into her journey of starting her own business—not from a lifelong dream of entrepreneurship, but out of necessity. As a mom managing her son’s therapy and appointments, Desta had to make a tough choice between working full-time and being there for her family. What struck me most about her story is how she leveraged her skills in organizing and design to create a business that offered flexibility while still allowing her to follow her passion.
Desta’s secret to success? Building relationships. It's more than just networking—it's about genuine connections. Whether over coffee or at women’s groups like the Beauty Boost in Indianapolis, Desta emphasizes the importance of forming authentic bonds with others. It’s a reminder that, at the end of the day, business is about people and how you treat them.

If you’re curious about interior design trends, Desta also shed light on the shift away from the cold grays of recent years. Instead, warmer tones and bold patterns are making their way back into homes. And for those of you clinging to skinny jeans—brace yourselves, they’re on the way out, too!
One of my favorite moments in the episode was when Desta shared her thoughts on balance and rediscovery. As her kids get older, she’s rediscovering what she loves outside of being a business owner and mom. From vintage shopping to dreaming of moving to Italy, Desta is proof that life is an ever-evolving journey.
