Interim HRDs & CFOs: where is the demand?

Interim HRDs & CFOs: where is the demand?

Manufacturing Practice update

It’s been a fantastic summer for the Interim Partners Manufacturing Practice.

We have 4 core areas – Pharmaceutical, FMCG, General Manufacturing and Aerospace/Defence.

Overall, demand has bucked the usual summer trend and we have experienced an increase in assignments for Interims across all key areas.

Ordinarily we experience a slight dip in July and certainly August, but we have not seen one this year. Quite the opposite in fact.

Summer trends

However, delve a little deeper in to the detail and what we have experienced is that increased demand for Interim expertise comes from very specific areas.

Our customers have been looking for Supply Chain, Procurement, and Operational interim resource in particular. As the UK Manufacturing sector gears up for the anticipated ‘resurgence’, this isn’t entirely surprising.

We have also seen a surge in enquiries for Interim CTOs, COOs and CEOs:

  • 60% - Supply Chain, Procurement, Ops
  • 20% - CIO, CTO
  • 15% – CEO, COO
  • 5% - Commercial (Sales / Marketing)

Whilst as a business we are thrilled that demand for our services is growing (for those of you who missed the memo, we have regained our 1st place in the IIM survey in July…!)

I would hasten to add this is a reversal on the trends we experienced earlier in 2017, when demand for our Interim HRD and CFO community was higher. Over the summer months this remains an area where client enquiries have been particularly low.

Has anybody else experienced a similar trend? The feedback from our community of Interim Executives is that it isn’t just Interim Partners that are a little quieter than usual in this space. Hopefully this is just a temporary lull.

Get in touch

If you do foresee any potential requirements within the Interim HRD or CFO space, let us know. We have some of the best people in the industry waiting to hear from us, they would love to throw themselves in to their next project.
