Interim Executives - "Wait, so you are OK with coming in for a short period of time while we figure out our next step?"

Interim Executives - "Wait, so you are OK with coming in for a short period of time while we figure out our next step?"

Yes, I am.

I was asked that question after being presented for a permanent General Manager role. The company, a software solutions provider in the medical/dental space, was evaluating several strategic opportunities, including sale, merger, divestiture or several other possibilities. At the same time, their $100M division needed leadership for all the obvious reasons including client satisfaction, financial performance and ultimately value, regardless of the transaction.

The CEO, fairly by the way, was reluctant to recruit and hire a new executive into a position that might be eliminated based on the outcome. Even worse, of course, would be recruiting this executive to leave a great spot and join them into such uncertainty. Therefore, the search would be naturally limited to "B" or even "C" players, since who would take that risk - especially if it meant leaving a great role. By definition, the search was doomed....except there was and is an answer to these types of circumstances.

Now, am I an "A" player? I let my experiences and results speak for that, as well as my references, which can be found at www.interimhealthtechleaders.com.

That aside, the important message for today is one of value and opportunity. I outlined one of several examples of business need that is uniquely answered by an Interim Executive. I spent almost 18 months with this client (could have been more!) and tackled some significant business challenges during my time there. We had more wins than losses and the company was afforded the time to go through and complete their strategic process.

I left on great terms with a hug from the CEO and a "let's keep in touch" which happily we have done. Truly a win for all, which at the end of the day is what being and engaging with an Interim Executive is all about - a win-win.

This is one of the use cases, one I laid out in my videos from October so feel free to check them out. As a quick reminder, my view of the top three use cases for you to consider bringing on an Interim Executive:

  1. Start-up to sub $10M revenue who need but can’t afford or attract experienced permanent leadership.
  2. Desire to introduce a new product or service and uncertain to your commitment.
  3. Your business is under some form of transition. (see above as example)

These are all great use cases. Underlying all of them is the base case: "Your company just needs help".

So, pretty simple -- How can we help you today?
