Interesting stuff in the automotive industry last week (19th August - 25th August) …
My favourite stories were…
I Get Around -- Volvo Germany has been taking a Formula 1 inspired pop-up dealership to events around the country. So far it has had 80 outings and clocked up 1.4 million visitors. Sometimes we perhaps get a bit carried away with all this disruption. Volvo’s experience shows there are plenty of ways to connect with customers via traditional methods done well.
Rather Die Young -- Ford thinks that self-driving cars will only last four years before being replaced. Since taxis today run to around 500,000 miles (based on reams of data from cities like New York and London), Ford’s premise seems to either be that autonomous cars will eat up the mileage in a short time, or that operators will suddenly switch to punier products that break more often. How many hard-nosed taxi operators did they speak with before coming to this conclusion?
The Heat Is On -- Lidar developer Oryx Vision shut down, even though there was enough money to keep going. When the boss tried to sell the firm, there weren’t any takers. With so many lidar companies around, and so few actual sales going on, is this the beginning of a bust?
But what do you think? Here’s a detailed review of this week’s industry news about #automotive , #mobility , #autonomous , #EV and much more (details on how to sign-up for the full mailout found here). It would be great to hear what’s catching your attention, and why.
